Ekiden UK
The UK’s First Public Marathon Relay
London, 2026 (date TBC)
Be part of history. Ekiden UK is the first public event of its kind - bringing Japan’s iconic team relay race to London’s running and fitness community.

This isn’t just a race. It’s a celebration of performance, culture, and community. Whether you’re a seasoned runner or training for your first team event, this is your chance to run with purpose.
What is Ekiden?
Ekiden is a long-distance team relay race rooted in Japanese tradition. It blends endurance with teamwork, competition with camaraderie.
FAQs:
How does Ekiden UK work?
We offer two race formats, both inspired by the traditional Japanese Ekiden relay:
-
Full Ekiden: 42.2 km total: each of the 4 runners completes 10.55 km
-
Half Ekiden: 21.1 km total: each of the 4 runners completes 5.275 km
In both events, runners pass a traditional tasuki sash at designated exchange points. It’s all about collective effort, teamwork, and the joy of shared achievement - whether you’re going the full or half distance.
Where and when will the race take place?
The race will be held in London in 2026. The exact date and location are still being finalised - we’re working to secure a scenic, central route that’s easy to access and fun to run.
Is this a competitive race?
It can be - but it doesn’t have to be. Whether you’re racing to win or just racing to finish, you’re welcome. Ekiden is as much about community as it is about performance.
Can I sign up solo or do I need a full team?
You can do either! Full team? Great - sign up together. Solo runner? No problem - we’ll match you with others at your pace. Want to join as a duo or trio? We’ll help complete your team.
How fit do I need to be to participate?
If you can confidently run or jog 10.5 km, you’re good to go. We’ll share a free 8-week training plan to help you prepare. This race is for intermediate runners and up, but you don’t need to be fast - just ready to commit.
What does it cost?
We’re still finalising pricing, but you’ll get:
-
Race entry
-
Custom bibs + medal
-
Team photos
-
Access to pre-race warm-ups and post-race celebration zone
-
Community training content
Waitlist members will get early bird pricing and exclusive perks.
Can I walk part of it?
While this event is designed for runners and joggers, we welcome a wide range of paces. If you’re walking more than jogging, we’d recommend checking in with us so we can advise whether this year’s format is the right fit for you or if we can match you accordingly.
Is the race chip-timed?
Yes, we plan to use chip timing or accurate manual timing for each team. You’ll know your total time and individual split - perfect for tracking progress or friendly competition.
Can I volunteer instead of running?
Yes! We’re looking for enthusiastic volunteers to help with setup, route marshalling, cheer zones, registration, and more. Use the waitlist form to let us know you’re interested in volunteering.
Will there be training or coaching available?
Yes - we’ll be launching custom training plans closer to the event. You’ll also receive exclusive content from Mihaly, a former pro athlete and PT, including warm-up routines, recovery tips, and pacing advice.
Can I bring friends or family to watch?
Definitely. There will be spectator zones, cheer squads, and a post-race celebration open to friends and family.
What if my team member drops out before the race?
We’ll help you find a replacement runner through our waitlist or community matching system. We’re building in flexibility to support team changes as needed.
Will there be prizes?
Yes! Expect prizes for fastest teams, best team spirit, most creative team name, and more. But the biggest win is building something meaningful - together.
